How to calculate engagement rate
Reach vs. followers
Reach-based rate is more honest because it measures the share of viewers who interacted. Follower-based rate looks low for big accounts where each post reaches only a fraction of the audience.
Benchmarks per network
Healthy engagement looks different per network: 0.5 to 2% on Instagram by reach, 1 to 3% on LinkedIn, 0.05 to 0.3% on X, 5 to 10% on TikTok. Compare against your own history first.
Saves and shares outweigh likes
Saves and shares signal stronger intent than likes. Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn weight them harder when ranking a post. Track those columns separately when you tune content.
